Don Cult

Branding and Identity for the cultural forum Don Cult, which aims at promoting the culture of one ethnic region in another region.

Sketching & Ideas development. Many versions were developed to show the dialogue and cultural interchange as the main mission of the cultural forum.

The final version was inspired by the system of the coordinates within which the regional cultures are formed. The logotype was developed to function simply in black and white, 2 major colours were added to stand for each of the regions featured each year and was changing from one festival to another one.

Brief. Development of the logotype and branded materials for the cultural forum Don Cult, which was aimed to promote the culture of one ethnic region of Ukraine in the center of another region.

Target audience. Although the forum was mainly aimed at the cultural intelligence and groups of interest, its primary goal was to involve the wide public of various ages in the intercultural dialogue.

Solution. The idea for the logo and identity appeared from the vision of the forum as the basis for cultural interchange. Squares stand for the ethnic regions and show its culture as the unique system of coordinates in which it was formed. There was also an intention to express such a complex and abstract meaning as ‘culture’ in the simple and flexible solution. The square was chosen as the primary element for the rest of the designs.

Each year 2 main colors will be changed depending on the region they symbolize and the square will be treated differently through the designs.

Effect & Affect. The forum held around 80 events during 2 weeks in the main cultural locations in Lviv city. It was visited by around 6 000 people, including theatrical performances, opera, orchestra, lectures, exhibitions, and discussions. The forum increased awareness of the cultural heritage and art treasures of eastern Ukraine breaking the stereotypes and shifting the focus from the political disagreements and disconnection.
